The Sympathizer

Coming late 2024 - The Sympathizer was set in 1970s Los Angeles. Working under Production Designer Donald Graham Burt for the second time, I did the hero prop graphics remotely on this one, taking a kind of break after 10 months on the road with White Noise and The Killer back to back. When art department needed more help, I did various street signs and logos as needed, including remote work with the crew in Thailand. The main challenge with this show was translation: the dialogue and props were often in Vietnamese, but we filmed in the US and Thailand with a Korean director. Translators were needed to consult the director in Korean about the Vietnamese translations, which needed to be accurate to the time period. We learned through the process that Vietnamese of Vietnam era and right after was different from modern Vietnamese.
